Michael Wright is the son of a teaching professional (Gary). He has won many pro-ams especially on the Sunshine Tour of Queensland but his 72-hole victories came at the 2005 Toyota Classic in NSW, the 2005 NSW Open and the 2011 Victorian PGA Championship. He was runner-up at the 2010 Thailand Open and the 2012 South Pacific Open.
