Kiwi veteran Steven Alker added another chapter to his remarkable career, capturing victory on the PGA Champions Tour over the weekend. The 53-year-old fired a brilliant final-round 66 to secure the win and continue his dominant form against some of golf’s biggest legends.

Asian Tour

Local favourite Miguel Tabuena delivered an unforgettable performance in front of his home fans, claiming a three-shot victory at the International Series Philippines at Sta. Elena Golf Club. The Filipino star fired a final-round 65 to finish at 24-under, securing his fourth Asian Tour title and becoming the most successful Filipino golfer in Asian Tour history. Japan’s Kazuki Higa and Yosuke Asaji shared second, with Higa regaining the top spot on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

The Asian Tour now moves to Hong Kong for the US$2 million Link Hong Kong Open next week.

Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia

 
Sanchez claims maiden Tour win

Victoria’s Matias Sanchez captured his first Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia victory, holding his nerve to win the 2025 Webex Players Series South Australia at Willunga. The 27-year-old led from start to finish, closing with a one-under 71 to finish two strokes clear of local favourite Adam Bland.

Blake Windred and Haydn Barron shared third place, while Jay Mackenzie and Douglas Klein rounded out the top five.

“It’s hard to believe — it’s just so special to finally get the win,” said Sanchez, who credited a hot putter and steady wedge play for his performance.

The Jennian Homes Charles Tour

Josh Geary once again showed why he’s one of New Zealand’s most consistent performers, securing victory at the TSB Taranaki Open at New Plymouth Golf Club. The Tauranga professional finished at six-under par to claim another Jennian Homes Charles Tour trophy in blustery conditions.

The win adds to Geary’s impressive domestic record, cementing his reputation as “Mr Consistent” on the national circuit.

Other notable performances

  • New Zealand’s young golfers continued to shine internationally, with Cooper Moore, Robby Turnbull, and Joshua Bai all finishing strongly at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai. Moore, 17, led the way at 4-under (T17), Turnbull followed at 3-under (T19), and Bai placed T34. Thailand’s Fifa Laopakdee claimed the title in a dramatic playoff, earning starts at the Masters and The Open Championship in 2026. Next year’s event will be hosted at Te Arai Links, bringing the prestigious championship to New Zealand for the first time.
