Now that’s more like it.

Kiwi golf star Ryan Fox has fired his way back into contention at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open with an eight-under 63 in the third round at Millbrook Resort.

Coming off a disappointing second round on Friday which saw him bobbing and weaving to dodge the cut, the European Tour rookie climbed his way up the leaderboard, just four shots behind leader Brad Kennedy, of Australia when the Kiwi completed his round.

“To be honest it was probably a little scrappy to start with and I holed a 45 to 50 footer across the green on five and that kickstarted things,” Fox said.

“I saw a lot of 10 and 12 footers go in today that haven’t gone in the previous five or six tournaments and it’s nice to be back in the tournament.”

With veteran caddie Steve Williams on his bag for the first time in Queenstown this week, Fox said an attitude adjustment had helped to warm up his putter.

“I don’t know what (the change) was, probably just mentality, just let go of the outcome and not worry about it. I think we read the greens well the first couple of days, I just struggled to start it on line and today I managed to start it on line and my speed was probably a little better as well.”

WIth those ahead of him still early in their afternoon rounds, Fox was preparing to take a never-say-die attitude into his final round at Millbrook Resort tomorrow.

“Brad (Kennedy) played some amazing golf the first two days and he looks like he started pretty solidly again today, so unless he does something silly and shoots six or seven-under I think I’d have another chance tomorrow with another 63 or 64,” Fox said.
